To answer that question, let’s think that we are meeting for the first time on a speed blind date like those that were very popular in the early 2000s.

3, 2, 1… Action!

- Hi, my name is Ana, nice to meet you! This is my first blind date so I’m a bit nervous

- Don’t worry, we have all been there! Let’s start with the basics. Tell me a bit more about yourself.

- Well, I am 34 years old, I’m Spanish and I work as a freelance graphic designer.

- Spanish, really? How come you speak English so well?

- I studied English my whole life and I have lived in London for 3 years and then went to study Art at a Danish University for another 3 years. I don’t speak Danish so the BA was in English.

- Woah, you have moved a lot then!

- Yeah I also lived in Italy for a year so I speak Italian and some French too.

- That’s impressive!

- Thank you! What about you? Where do you work?

- I work in HR, so I am a bit familiar with Canva to make presentations and stuff, I guess you know this too as a designer.

- Yeah sure, Canva is a great tool. I use it to create templates and give more freedom to my clients but I usually work with Adobe software, you know Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign and also Figma for web and mobile app design.

- I remember trying to learn Photoshop when I was a teen, it was so complicated! How do you use them, like what kind of designs you make?

- Everything from digital media like Instagram posts and emails to printed materials, you know, posters, flyers and brochures, banners for events and so on. But my specialties are brand and UX design.

- Like creating logos?

- It is part of the branding process, yes, but it’s more than that. It requires research and development of visual identity, like the logo, colors, etc., and also its personality, how the brand communicates, the packaging of its products, its customer service…

- I didn’t know that, I always thought a cool logo was just enough.

- That’s quite normal actually, but I am always happy to explain to my clients the differences branding can make for their businesses and they are glad I do!

- Your job sounds so interesting, I would love to ask you so many things but time is up… Would you like to meet again?

- Sure, I would love to! You can contact me anytime!
